Suggestive selling, in my experience, tends to be about trying to get someone to do something for their self but not offering the suggestion itself. I always try to make clear the fact that it is my job to sell the service. I don’t think it matters if the person who owns our website does the selling. I think it is important to understand that they are just as much a customer as anyone else.

The key is to know your market. What do you need to sell? What are the features that your market needs? This is where salespeople, advertisers, and marketeers can save you a ton of time. You don’t need to do all of this for each and every one of your potential customers. You need to know the specific market you are in so that you can focus more on a specific set of features that they need and are willing to pay for.
