I would say that the majority of people are quite aware of their surroundings in this way. The awareness in the sense that there is an awareness about what is right around us. The ability to take notice of and react to our surroundings. This awareness is something that can be tapped into by a smart phone or a smart computer such as a laptop. It is also the awareness that people have about how their surroundings are changing.
It is worth noting that while most of us are aware of what is around us, we are not aware of what we are doing. This is called as “flow” and it is a common trait in people who are healthy.

One thing that is often lost in the current push for the “more is better” mindset is that the act of noticing how we are changing the world around us is not passive. We can actively participate in the changes we bring about, we can change the world in ways we do not even realize.
If you’re an architect who has a little problem with a design when you are trying to change the world around you, you are probably not doing much to change the world around you. You could just make a few small changes to the world around you.
The problem is if you’re doing things to the world around you that you don’t realize you are doing, you are not really doing much. If you are so busy trying to change the world around you, you are probably not doing much. You are probably not doing much at all.
