Here are 8 clichés that you need to avoid when writing copy for your website. With these phrases, it’s best to be clever, simple and slick!
“We’ll beat any price!”
“You’ll feel right at home.”
“Look for us under the ‘S’ in Sears.”
“Join our family today and save big!”
“Serving all of your needs” (or, anything to do with a service)
“The best quality you can buy,” or similar phrases. Always use metrics like: how much better is it? How does it perform vs. other products on the market? What makes this product superior?”
“100% Satisfaction Guarantee” Unless we are talking about customer satisfaction, which should be qualified as such, there’s no need to say that you have a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
“At every turn” – I’m not sure what this means.
“In a world of its own” – again, vague and unclear.

Category: Writing tips Title: Write with Clarity by Avoiding These Common Mistakes Description: It is not uncommon for
It’s not that hard to do
I’m sure it will be ok
Let’s give it a shot
We don’t have anything better than this now.
These are all phrases we’ve heard before and they’re usually said in an effort to calm yourself or another person down, but the point is: these things almost never work! Arguments are best resolved with logic rather than trying to convince people of your side by using words you know they’ll agree with. This is one way being smarter and slicker can help you out even when dealing with difficult people; like angry customers for example. If somebody gets upset about their refund request, instead of saying “Calm down,” try something more
“We’re experts in our field”
“If this were a movie, the soundtrack would be playing right now”
“You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”
“X is for Y because Z” (e.g., A is for Apple because they make computers)
etc.
The result of removing these clichés will be smarter content that’s cleaner and slicker than before. You’ll end up with something simple but clever instead of simplistic or boring. Your readers will enjoy reading what you write more if you avoid cliches! Best yet, by getting rid of them, you’ll also get to spend less time editing your work later on down the road.
Some examples of clichés that can be removed are: “Calm down,” “You’re being too sensitive right now” and “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”
Create a strategy for change.
Measure the impact of your efforts in terms of both qualitative and quantitative data.
Focus on making small, smart changes over time that will make a big difference in the long run rather than trying to overhaul everything at once.
Keep an eye out for new opportunities as you work through this process so you can incorporate them into your plan if they fit with what you are doing already (e.g., find more ways to reuse materials or revise timelines).
Get support from others – it helps! Find someone who is willing to help hold yourself accountable, be honest with you when things aren’t going well, and who has been where you want to go before. -Plan some time every day to focus on your efforts. Set a goal for yourself, and then do what it takes to reach that goal each day (e.g., find five things you can do in 15 minutes or less). Think about how easy, simple, and quick the change should be; this way you will maintain momentum over time. Hire someone else if necessary! Sometimes outsourcing small tasks like updating templates or sending emails might free up more of your time so you can get back to doing higher value work instead.” -Create a plan for which changes are most important when – based on their potential impact on both strategy execution and culture/values alignment relative to other initiatives as well as the risks
